Ever since I switched to my flip phone I have been alot more intrested in how tech used to be made back in the 2000's and it kinda opened the flood gates for alot of nostalgia of my early childhood and it made me wonder how those times of bright colored days when you where hanging out with your friends after school at there house or in the neighborhood and watching regular show all day feels like such a distant dream that has just vanished.
This made me think
1. Have I just become a old unc and should I just check in to a nursing home?
2. Is this just another example of a past generation longing for the past?
3. Has the world really gotten as bad as I think?
4. Why does everything lack authenticity and look so bland now?
5. Will it ever come back?
Anytime im on instagram I get alot of the "nostalgia core" edit stuff in my feed and a quote I see alot on them is "The World You Grew Up In No Longer Exists" and as much as there just posting it to get likes for its aesthetic appeal I feel it shows a sence of loss and nihilism among gen z and a want for somthing with spirit,authenticity,and simplicity.
I have researched alittle on this and it seems many people blame different things for this attitude like the negative effects of capitalism and that this attitude comes from a set of mind tricks where that the mind plays memories in there best light without remembering the bad.
While I do feel that these takes do have there merit I think that they miss a crucial spritual aspect in that we all have faith in somthing. What I mean by that is that we have always had faith in the world around us when we where little and we where so innocent minded that we thought not alot would change.
But as one grows older and people move, get jobs, go to college, or do other things we start to see how unstable the world around us is and faith starts to dessipate. It also becomes apperent the hatred of the average person and nasty ways the world through which is reveled by the internet, life, or another sort of medium.
Somthing I have been reading for awhile that I feel explains the times we live in very well is a zine called Death To The World . There linked is a video that reads from the first issue of the zine. I hope this blog did not come off as some woh is me/edgy type thing lol. I just like to think that even though we do think these things the simple fact that we are existing right now is such a insane circumstance and that there is a whole world out there(the best and only one we have I might add). You must drill into your brain hole that eveyday is a gift from somthing loving and caring and although it is easy to succumb too nihilistic thinking you have too think generative and keep on trekkin frens.
